RONALD C. ‘RONNY’ COUGHLIN

Ronald C. “Ronny” Coughlin, 69, of Bridgeport, WV/Big Stone Gap, VA, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at McLeod Hospice House, Florence, SC, following an extended illness.

He was born in Appalachia, VA to the late Leeroy C. “L. C.” and Nina (Stauffer) Coughlin, was raised in Big Stone Gap, VA. He was a 1969 graduate of Powell Valley High School and had lived in Bridgeport, WV since 1988. He was a coal miner with the Westmoreland Coal Co. for 15 years, member of the U.M.W.A. and then served as assistant plant manager for Nalco Chemical Co. in Bridgeport, WV for ten years. He loved animals, hunting, Harley motorcycles and was an antique collector. He was of Baptist faith.

Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Katherine Coughlin; two sons, Dr. Eric (Brittney) Coughin, Florence, SC and Justin Coughlin, Bridgeport; granddaughter Amelia Coughlin, Florence, SC; brother, Bob (Pat) Coughlin, Big Stone Gap; two sisters, Jan Coughlin and Kaye Mink, both of Big Stone Gap; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Friday, Feb. 21, at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave. W., Big Stone Gap. The funeral service will follow at 7 pm with Dr. Garrett Sheldon officiating.

A graveside committal service will be conducted at 11am Saturday, Feb. 22 at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. The family and friends are asked to meet at Gilliam Funeral Home by 10:30 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.

The pallbearers will be: Eric Coughlin, Justin Coughlin, Jerred Mink, Kaleb Mink, Chad Herndon, Bob Coughlin and Larry Daniel.
