Judith Ann Caldwell May, 82, passed away peacefully on Feb. 24, 2025, at NHC HealthCare, Oak Ridge after an extended illness under Hospice care. Judy was born July 21, 1942, and grew up in Rhoda, Appalachia, and Big Stone Gap, VA and later relocated to the Knoxville, TN area. She was in the first class of students to attend Powell Valley High School in BSG when it opened in 1959. She attended Mountain Empire Community College (VA) and Pellissippi State Community College (TN) where she studied accounting and office systems. She worked as a bookkeeper for several companies in VA and TN. Judy had a strong Christian faith and was a member of the Powell Presbyterian Church (TN). She will be remembered by her family and friends as someone with a resilient spirit, loyal, kind, and always willing to give.
Judy was preceded in death by her father Glenn Edward Mahan, mother Allene Hillman Mahan, son Gene Edward Caldwell, and spouses Donald Caldwell and Thomas May.  She is survived by son Brian Allen Caldwell of Andersonville, TN, daughter Susan Diane Caldwell, of Clinton, TN, grandchildren Jason Mullins, Ashley Elyse Vanlandingham, Brittany Moore, Jessie Caldwell, Andy Caldwell, and 13 great grandchildren.
Judy’s life will be celebrated during a private family ceremony at American Legion Cemetery (Skeens Family Cemetery) in Big Stone Gap, VA.
