CARROLL EDMOND SHARPE SR

Carroll Edmond Sharpe, Sr., 93,  died Saturday, February 22, at Steadman Hill at Asbury Place in Kingsport, TN.  He spent all of his life in Wise County, mostly in Roda, Virginia. 
Carroll proudly served in the US Navy for four years during the Korean Conflict. 
For over 40 years, “Shag” worked for Westmoreland Coal Company at several of their underground mines.  
He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Barbara Jean Markland Sharpe; his parents, Charlie and Nora Potter Sharpe; brothers Cecil Sharpe, McLynn Sharpe, Bruce Sharpe, Eugene Sharpe and sister, Thelma Sharpe Sergent. 
He leaves behind his daughter Cheryl Sizemore; son, Eddie Sharpe (Priscilla); 2 brothers, Charles Sharpe of Bowie Maryland and Joe Sharpe of Cookeville, TN;  4 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, in-laws and close friends. 
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025 at the Oak Grove Baptist Church, Big Stone Gap from noon to 1 pm with services following officiated by Pastor Mike Sampson and Rick Phillips.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church Meals With a Mission at 14 E 11th Street N, Big Stone Gap, VA 24219. 
A special thank you to the administrative department, nursing staff, CNA’s, kitchen staff, activity director and Brandon and Frank at Steadman Hill who were so loving to Carroll and also thank you to Leanne and the hospice staff of Smoky Mountain Hospice in Kingsport.
