Big Stone Gap, VA – Naomi Jeanette White, 98, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2024 at Norton Community Hospital in Norton, VA.
Naomi was born in Exeter, VA and grew up in Dunbar, VA. She was a 1945 graduate of Appalachia High School. She was a CNA at Lonesome Pine Hospital and volunteered as a Pink Lady with the Lonesome Pine Hospital Auxiliary for many years. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge for 75 years. She loved traveling, reading, canning vegetables, and flower and vegetable gardening. She was a member of First Christian Church in Big Stone Gap.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Jerry and Mary Lee (Shuler) Wells; her husband of 57 years, Henry L. White; her son, Charles D. White; her daughter, Jeanie Mumpower and her siblings, Flora Coomer, Hubert Wells and J.C. Wells.
Naomi is survived by her children, Larry White (“Cookie”) of Greeneville, TN; Jerry White (Sherry) of Big Stone Gap, VA and Terry White (Nancy) of Cullman, AL; her brother, Robert Wells (Linda) of Redland, CA; her grandchildren, Rodney White, Joshua White (Darlene), Jeffery White (Jessica), Heather Taylor (Daniel) and Christie Mumpower; her great-grandchildren, Haven White, Heidi White, Haylee White, Owen Taylor, Parker Taylor and Cora Taylor; her great-great-grandchild, Kipton Lee Rose; her son-in-law, Bill Mumpower of Suwanee, GA and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 17, 2024 from 5:00-7:00pm at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave. W., Big Stone Gap, VA. The funeral service will begin at 7:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Greg Townsend, Minister officiating.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 11:00am in Powell Valley Cemetery, Dryden, VA. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home to leave in procession at 10:20am to travel to the cemetery. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
