LAWRENCE "LARRY" MIDKIFF

Lawrence "Larry" Midkiff of Columbia, South Carolina passed away on Wednesday, September 18 at Lexington Medical Center in Columbia surrounded by his family.
Larry was born in Appalachia, Virginia on January 19, 1937. He graduated from Appalachia High School and went on to graduate from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science degree in Ceramic Engineering. With his brilliant engineering mind he was able to fix anything around the house and could even build a television from scratch. He had the best sense of humor, loved a good joke, and always greeted everyone with the biggest grin.
Larry was a member of Union United Methodist Church in Irmo, South Carolina. He was also a “summer visiting” member of Legion Memorial Church in Big Stone Gap, Virginia.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Larry found his greatest joy in his family. He was happiest when cheering on his granddaughter, Madison, at dance events or rooting for his grandson, Jay, at baseball games.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Inez King Midkiff; his father, Lawrence Gilbert Midkiff Sr.; and his sister, Marjorie Midkiff Delp. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sandra Skeen Midkiff; his daughter, Lauren Midkiff Metts (Jimmy); and his cherished grandchildren, Madison and Jay Metts.
The family received friends on Monday, September 23 from 1:00-2:00 pm at Roy A. Green Funeral Home in Appalachia, Virginia followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel officiated by John Tull and Steve “Stork” Maddox. Burial followed at the Skeen
Family Cemetery adjacent to Legion Memorial Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Legion Memorial Church at PO Box 628, Big Stone Gap, Virginia 24219.
