STEPHEN A. "STEVE" WHITEN

Stephen A. “Steve” Whiten, age 67 of Gate City, VA, went to be with the Lord Monday, June 3, 2024.  He was the son of the late Kenneth Wayne and Ruby Quillen Whiten.  In his early life, Steve enjoyed painting and was an avid outdoorsman.  He also enjoyed cooking programs and television.  In addition to his parents, Steve is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John Jacob and Nannie Belle Whiten; maternal grandparents, Ezra and Lottie Quillen; very close cousin, Tony Quillen; very close great uncle, Thomas Larkey. Several Aunts and Uncles.

Steve is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Shirley J. Whiten; daughters, Melissa Whiten Munsey and husband Todd, Toni Alisha Whiten and husband Donny Dixon; son, John Jacob Whiten and wife Ashley; grandchildren, Courtney Whiten, Kelsey Munsey, Lakin Marshall (Zane), Kaleb Whiten, Sarah Peters, Kassandra Whiten, Camdon Whiten, Peyton Seymour, Cloie Whiten, Jaxson Whiten; great grandchildren, Riley Perry and Evita Marshall; sister, Leah Ann Qualls (Jeff); brother, Greg Whiten (Donna); special friends, Gerald Compton and Rick Corder; several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 5-7 PM at Colonial Funeral Home.  Funeral service were held at 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Brother Todd Munsey officiating.  Music was provided by Brother Todd Munsey, Tim Adams & David Munsey. Family will also receive friends anytime at 1369 W. Jackson St., Apt. 202 in Gate City, VA.  Per Steve’s request a cremation will follow.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. South, Dr. Princz, Dr. Cornwell and the ICU staff at Holston Valley Medical Center.
