LOTUS “SANDY” SMITH

Lotus “Sandy” Smith, 80, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at her daughter’s residence in Lebanon, VA surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Big Stone Gap, VA and lived in Big Stone for most of her life. She was the youngest of 8 children. Sandy retired from the Division of Mines, Minerals, and Energy in Big Stone Gap, VA. Sandy loved the Lord and was a member of New Hope Assembly of God Church in Big Stone Gap, VA.

Sandy was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Buddy” Smith; her parents, Maggie and Clarence McQuery; sister, Faye Shelton; brother, Donald R. McQuery; sister in law, Janice McQuery; brother in law, Bobby Dean.

She is survived by two daughters who loved her to the moon and back and two son in laws, she said were the best son in laws in the world, Patti and Dennis Sanders of Chilhowie, VA, Kristina and Darrell Taylor of Lebanon, VA; sister, Patty Dean of Gray, TN; 4 brothers, and 3 sisters in law, Buddy and Dorothy McQuery of Loveland, OH, Gene and Doris McQuery of Wilmington, NC, Jimmy and Marilyn McQuery of Clarkston, MI, Dean McQuery of Milford, OH; 3 special nieces and their spouses, Vicky and Curtis Smith of Piney Flats, TN, Lisa and Bobby Dale of West Palm Beach, FL, Sandra and Dean Prince of Jacksonville, FL; 2 special great nephews and their spouses, Bobby and Courtney Kingan, Jason and Christy Kingan; many special nephews and nieces; a very special friend whom she cherished, Randy Casey.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the New Hope Assembly of God church, Big Stone Gap with services following officiated by Rev. Rick Whitten. Procession will follow to Powell Valley Memorial Gardens for the committal service.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Sanders, Darrell Taylor, Jason Kingan, Bobby Kingan, Curtis Smith and Bret Hughes.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
