Library fantasy events kickoff Oct. 1
Lonesome Pine Regional Library is excited to celebrate the 2021 National Endowment for the Arts’ Big Read program, featuring Ursula K. Le Guin’s A Wizard of Earthsea! Join us as we discuss, celebrate, and create works of fantasy. See below an abbreviated list of community events, and visit our social media or website for a full list of programming!
October 1 – Fantasy “Funtasia” Kickoff
Each branch will feature a host of fantasy themed entertainment, snacks, and activities to ring in the NEA Big Read! Join us from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm to receive your free copy of A Wizard of Earthsea.
October 2 – Fantasy Mad Libs Reader’s Theater
This virtual event will allow young patrons to be the stars of the show as they join via Zoom to help create and read a fantasy script.

October 9 – Fantasy Game Night
Join us from 4:00-8:00p at Wise Cavalier Comics to play fantasy games and browse a collection of fantasy novels.
October 12 – Fantasy Trivia & Bingo
Support local business Norton Sugar Hill Cidery and test your fantasy knowledge at 6:00p.
October 22 – Fantasy across the Disciplines; Keynote Address
Come hear representatives from Art, Science, English, and History talk about how fantasy weaves in and out of the various disciplines. Keynote address will take place at 1:00 PM on the campus of UVA Wise. This activity is approved for UVA Wise Cultural Credit.
Visit your local branch for a full list of NEA Big Read Events. Fantasy programs for Little Pines, Baby Sprouts, and Trailblazers will take place at their normally scheduled times.
