Cruise-In A Success

The Cruise-In Saturday afternoon in Appalachia was very successful once again! The food trucks were set up in the parking lot in town and the antique vehicles parked in the lots also for people to view the beauty of the vehicles. Restored antique cars are a drawing card for a lot of people everywhere.

Fundraiser Was a Hit

The fundraiser/hot dog sale for the Appalachia Lions Club was a big hit. Sandy’s chili once again proved to be the best hot dogs in town.

The Lions Club is replacing the flooring in their new location at the former Dr. Ford’s office in Appalachia. If you would like to make a donation for this worth while need it would be greatly appreciated.

Beautiful Weather

Thankful for the beautiful weather we have had the last two weeks, but it too shall all come to an end, said to say.

Feels so good to be able to work outside. It reminds me of when we were kids at our grandparents house and always had chores to help them with.

They had a cow, chickens, pig and the garden. This all amounted to their livelihood. No checks or income. My grandfather was laid off at US Steel mines and with his age he was never called back to work. The animals had to be fed each day and cared for, no matter how hot or cold the temperature was outside.

I found a picture taken in the 1950’s of the old home-place in the Wildcat and memories of our life there flooded my mind. Life was hard but we all did our part and really loved each other, not for what we could get, just because we were family.

We learned a lot from working, sharing with our family. My Grannie got up one morning, went to the bathroom, came back and went to her bed and went to sleep eternally at the age of 96 years.

She worked hard all her life but not in the public. She worked at home for her family’s survival. This is what coming through the Great Depression did for our families. They learned how to survive.

I wonder do we have the strength and knowledge to survive if there is something similar to the Great Depression that would effect us today?
