Expect delays

Don’t forget: Southbound traffic on U.S. 23 between Norton and Big Stone Gap can face delays of up to 15 minutes at a time, several times a day, through late July or early August because of a rockfall protection project. One mile of the southbound lane will be closed during the project. The easiest way to avoid getting stuck in traffic is to turn left onto Route 610, Powell Valley Road, before reaching the valley overlook, then travel through the valley to the first Big Stone Gap U.S. 23 on-ramp.
