Half marathon runners race through Big Stone Gap on the first day of spring. Last year, the marathon was held virtually due to COVID-19. Runners were able to participate in person this year with some social distancing. KED MEADE PHOTO

Play ball!
The Jasmine Cottage held its ribbon cutting ceremony Monday. It is the newest business to open in Big Stone Gap. The business offers pastries and custom cake designs. Town Council came out to welcome the new business owners. New business opens
Appalachian Mercantile held its ribbon cutting April 3. Many town officials as well as Wise County/Norton Chamber of Commerce representatives were there for the event. The business opened in early March and has been doing quite well. In a deal with the town of Appalachia, owners Tommy and Shelby Adkins were given the building on Main Street in exchange for completing the repairs and opening a business. Appalachian Mercantile offers a coffee shop with pastries as well as clothing including Appalachia Bulldog and Powell Valley Viking shirts and hoodies. TERRAN YOUNG PHOTO
