Town workers get vaccine

January 18, 2021

BIG STONE GAP — Town Manager Steve Lawson informed Town Council last Tuesday that about half of the town’s employees who were eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine have taken it.

“I hope that percentage comes up,” said Lawson.

Lawson hopes those who are reluctant to take the vaccine change their minds after talking to other town employees who have taken it.

Lawson stated that 70 percent of the town’s emergency personnel have taken the vaccine, and “100 percent of EMS have taken it.”

He explained that some of the volunteer firefighters didn’t take it.

“It is not required that employees take the vaccine,” said Lawson.
