COUNCIL MEETING

The Appalachia Town Council will meet on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 5 p.m. at the former Appalachia High School auditorium. Wear your mask, social distancing.

THANK YOU

I want to thank everyone for ALL my happy birthday wishes from so many of my friends!

Seventy-five years on this earth and I am still surviving. We enjoyed our visit to the Inn at Christmas Place. Everyone has adjusted to the fact when you are out you must wear a mask in Tennessee and Virginia. This makes things more safe and enjoyable.

On Saturday our son, Shaun and his two daughters, Annie and Berkley came for a celebration with us for my birthday. Berkley is almost 8 years old and she wanted to pick the card and the flowers for my gift. Here she comes carrying two boxes with six special cupcakes from the bakery. All different flavors. Then she picked purple roses because she said purple is Gran’s favorite color. Let me tell you this was special to this grandmother from her grandchildren.

My three older grandsons telephoned me on Saturday night to let me know they were thinking about me. I am so thankful I have friends, children, and grandchildren. God has been so good to me. He blessed me with a Christian husband, family and friends. What more could I ask for?

EVENTS PUT ON HOLD

All the events that are annually put on in our towns for the Fall have been put on hold just like the Spring and Summer festivals. We all know the cause...Covid. Hopefully things will look better in a few more months.

FALL IS IN THE AIR

Sept. 22 is the first day of Fall. We have been enjoying these cool mornings and evenings already.

BIRTHDAY

Howard Cummins will be celebrating a birthday on Sept. 22, 93 years I do believe. Howard lives at The Laurels (5635 BSG Drive, Norton, VA 24273-4055) now. No visitors are allowed due to Corona Virus threat. I am sure he would enjoy hearing from his former students and friends.

FLAG

Friday afternoon when Gary and I returned from our trip and entering Appalachia there in full view was a big American Flag being hosted up in the sky by a large ladder on the Appalachia Fire Department truck. It made me feel so good to see our flag flowing in the breeze. As we know freedom was not free. It came with a price.

Sept. 11, 2001 was a day not to be forgotten in my lifetime. An attack on our own soil, New York City, Pennsylvania Washington, D.C. were the targets. Who would have ever thought this could have happened in our United States.
