Basic cellphone photography workshop offered

August 05, 2020

Big Stone Gap — The Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park continues its 2020 Artisan Series of programs with the August theme of “Basic Cellphone Photography Workshop,” taught by Dirk Wiley. The Basic Cellphone Photography Workshop will be held on Tuesday, August 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Museum’s Victorian Garden.

The August workshop instructor, Dirk Wiley, has been studying photography and videography for more than forty years, and since his retirement from the National Park Service he has turned that hobby into a small business. Working with schools, Boy Scouts, non-profits and national parks, he believes that each image tells a story, and that learning to tell those stories well in photographs is the beginning of art.” Participants will learn basic composition, lighting and techniques in this workshop.

The fee for the “Basic Cellphone Photography Workshop” is $10 per person. All supplies and materials are included. Spaces are limited, so register early.

The Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park’s Artisan Series will offer a craft project on the third Tuesday of every month from March through December, providing visitors with opportunities to create handmade crafts with regional artisans.

Participants are required to social distance between those not in the same household. Face coverings are required if you enter the Museum for any reason during your visit. For more information about upcoming workshops, or to register, please contact the park at 276/523-1322.
