PAULA MARIE GEORGE DICKERSON

Paula Marie George Dickerson, age 87, of Johnson City, TN passed away Friday, May 22, 2020 at Lakebridge Health Care Center in Johnson City.

Paula was born April 8, 1933 in Dunbar, VA, a coal mining camp. At the age of 6 the family moved to the Powell Valley area of Big Stone Gap. She graduated high school in 1952 from East Stone Gap High School where she played basketball. She once scored 75 points in one game.

She began her working career in Dayton, Ohio at General Motors Acceptance Corporation, transferred to Louisville, Kentucky and finished her career in Johnson City.

She met her husband Charles Clinton “Jim” Dickerson Jr. of Damascus, VA when they both rented rooms in the same house on Pine Street in Johnson City. They were married December 21, 1957 at First United Methodist Church in Johnson City.

She was a big sports fan. She love going to Science Hill football and basketball games. She loved watching the Tennessee Vols football and basketball teams, and the Lady Vols basketball team on television. 

Paula was member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities. She enjoyed quilting.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Clinton “Jim” Dickerson Jr., parents Robert Liscoe George and Bessie Kate Salyer George, sisters  Virginia Inez George Booher and Betty Joan George Gill, brothers Cecil Leon George and Carl Robert George.

She is survived by her son Phillip George Dickerson,  sister Jean George Fraley and several nieces and nephews.
